Frequently Asked Maintenance Questions
Harley-Davidson® engines are high-performance machines that require specific intervals to maintain peak performance:
The 1,000-Mile Break-In: This is the most critical service for new builds or new bikes. We change the engine oil/filter, primary lubricant, and perform a mandatory "nut-and-bolt" inspection of all fasteners and cables to protect your warranty.
The 5,000-Mile Interval: Every 5,000 miles (or annually), your bike needs a comprehensive check-up, including an oil/filter change and an inspection of your brakes, tires, and air cleaner.
The 10,000-Mile Major Service: This includes everything in the 5,000-mile service, plus new spark plugs and a critical brake system flush.
It’s the gold standard for V-Twins. We don't just "change the oil." We replace the lubricants in all three critical areas:
The Engine
The Primary Chaincase
The Transmission We also inspect your belt/chain adjustment and electrical system during every 3-hole service.
Yes. Even if you don't hit the mileage milestones, fluids break down over time and moisture can build up in the system. We recommend an Annual Inspection to check your battery, tire pressures, and safety systems so your bike is ready when you are.
DOT 4 brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. To ensure your stopping power remains "Better, Faster, Stronger," the system should be flushed every two years, regardless of mileage.
Fayetteville summers and aggressive riding qualify as "Severe Conditions." If you’re pushing your V-Twin in high heat or dusty environments, you should increase your service frequency. Call Swin to discuss a custom maintenance plan for your riding style.
